History, Mystery and Magic

I have been a nurse on two continents, a running coach, a yoga teacher, a world traveller, a Padi certified scaredy-cat scuba diver and can lay claim to having completed one marathon, two triathlons and did not finish last.

Growing up in Yorkshire England in a small coal-mining village taught me to be tough and resilient. Yorkshire people take no prisoners and call ‘a spade a spade’. There is nowhere to hide!

Yorkshire grit has allowed me to stay sane (mainly) through changing countries, having babies, raising teenagers, working as a registered nurse in many different environments, my passion being working with new mothers and babies. All this experience came in handy when I began to write. I have sent my heroine, midwife Annie, to medieval Yorkshire, travelling with Vikings from Yorkshire to the world beyond and finding her way through northern England in Roman times. An avid Shakespeare fan, I am happiest when visiting The Globe Theatre in London, England to enjoy one of the Bard’s plays. My love of Shakespeare gave birth to the character of Will Boucher; he first appeared as Michael Williams in Henry V. I borrowed him and gave him a longer life. In my latest novel, ‘All the World’s a Stage’, Annie and friends visit Shakespeare’s London in 1600 where they fall foul of the London gangs.

After leaving Toronto, Canada for a new life in the Rocky Mountains with my new husband Jim (who complains of not understanding my Yorkshire accent), we settled in a tiny mountain community and, after retirement, I began to write stories about history, mystery and magic.
